Sadly, due to habitat loss they are isolated to small pockets of wild bushland and face the ever-looming threat of extinction. That is why we are so incredibly proud to provide a wonderful sanctuary for our four beautiful elephants here at Australia Zoo, and support their conservation in the wild. Raflesia, Widya, Christina and Megawati live a wonderful life at the zoo getting to explore their habitat and also educate our guests about the importance of their conservation. Further, we have also helped construct an elephant hospital in Sumatra to provide support for them in the wild. Hopefully in our generation we can finally see these iconic animals bounce back from brink." - Robert Irwin
